It’s important to note that you should never subject your Bone or Fine Bone China to extreme temperature changes, which includes exposing it to a naked flame or hot liquids above boiling temperature.
Pouring boiling water into your cup, pot or bowl can cause a rapid change of temperature so with that in mind, it’s important to first warm the piece in warm water and allow the boiling water to cool down before pouring.
Some Fine China plates and serving dishes can be warmed before use in an oven or hostess trolley with the temperature not exceed 100°C. Tableware with gold or platinum trim cannot be used in a microwave, period, and it should be said too, that Bone and Fine Bone China should never be used for cooking purposes.
Fine China and Bone China must not be subjected to extreme temperature changes or exposed to a naked flame or hot liquids above boiling temperature.
WASHING TIPS
Less delicate china can be cleaned in a dishwasher, providing there is a gentle cycle setting where the temperature does not exceed 65°c / 150°c. We recommend using a dishwasher agent reccomended by Caverswall China Co.
While it “can” be safe to put bone China in a dishwasher, it really depends on the item, and when in double, hand washing with a soft cloth, a delicate damp sponge, dish towel or a soft paper towel and using warm soapy water or mild dish detergent is a safe option.
You should never use scouting pads, abrasive pads steel wool scrubs or washing agents. By simply soaking in warm water before you wash your China will help to remove most stains or hardened on particles. After soaking a gentle hand washing, or as noted, less delicate china such as Bone China plates can be washing on a gentle cycle in the dishwasher.
Any minute marks caused by metal deposits from cutlery in particular can be removed with tooth powder or baking soda. In some cases (particularly in hard water areas), the use of a 50/50 mix of water and white vinegar can remove coffee and tea stains on tea cups for example, which you can gently rub out with a soft cloth.
STORING BONE CHINA
When storing China plates, try not to slide them over one another as this may cause tiny scratches in the glaze. The surface used on tableware is hard, however the front of one plate can be scratched by the back of another so care should be taken when stacking and we recommend that a paper napkin is placed between each plate in order to take proper care of the surfaces.
Cups should not be stored or hung from a cup hook or stacked, as this may weaken the handles.
